A word from Head Brewer & Co-Owner Kevin Welch on the year and exciting events to come…
Greetings Boom Island Friends,
Wow, what a year! Thanks to all of you for making 2015 so wonderful!!! Where do I start? How about all the beers we journeyed through together including many taproom exclusives and our Spontaneous Series was kicked off with Oude Funk. Be sure to look out for #2 in the series, Triple Brett, early 2016.
This year’s Thopfest highlighted Mosaic, Nelson Sauvin, Sorachi Ace, along with four other fun varieties of hops. Thopfest will for sure make a return in 2016.
Boom Days, was for sure a highlight. It grew by about 50% over last year’s. We added a Home Brew Competition to the Education Day Sunday and Cuvée was certainly tasting nice! Weather was perfect. We will be revealing the winner’s beer from 2015’s Homebrew Competition at this year’s Boom Days. 2016 Boom Days dates are July 15-17th.
We added one event in 2015 that was a huge success, “Pints and Pups,” a one day event that rivaled the numbers we’ve seen for Boom Days. What a great bunch of canines we had on hand as well. Thanks to all who participated there! The bigger and better Pints and Pups is planned for May, where we look forward to seeing you.
We had a great time at the Gravity No. 9 release which raised money for the Hero Initiative. Comic artist Bill Willingham who designed the label was on hand as well.
We can’t forget several cameos by the house band, “The Above Average Tuba Quartet” or the original tunes of Loons in the Attic.
We are looking forward to an even more exciting 2016 with you. We already have planned an even bigger Boom Days, several new beers, and many new events.
As always, we are proud to be bringing you a little taste of Belgium, from right around the corner!
Cheers and Happy New Year,
